TISHOMINGO, Okla. (KTEN) - The Tishomingo Indians are on the hunt for their first postseason appearance since 2011 in year two under Forrest Garner!

The Tishomingo Indians are entering year two under Forrest Garner and year one was pretty successful… winning multiple games for the first time since 2022… Now the Indians have their sights set on more… Sports Reporter Aidan Tyler has the preview…

“We want to make the playoffs. The ultimate goal is the gold ball, so the main thing for us has been to pursue that. Playoffs has been a big goal for us especially since we haven’t made it in, I don’t know so long, so it’s been a main goal for us.”

It has been a long time since the Indians were in the playoffs. Their last playoff trip was in 2011. The Indians last playoff win was all the way back in 2005. And the team knows what it would mean to make it back to the post season.

“It would mean everything to this community, this team, and this school. I think they’re hungry for it and I think this community has an expectation that Tish belongs there.”

And the Indians know exactly what they need to do to live up to those expectations. 

“The goal is always just to go 1-0 everyday. Whether it’s the rep or the play, just go 1-0. That’s been the goal the whole time. We don’t look too far ahead, we try to stay in the present and if we take care of the little things and we go 1-0 then the big things will take care of itself.” 

And after displaying a ton of growth the last few seasons, the Indians believe they can make that playoff run for the first time in over a decade.

“We were 0-10 my sophomore year, then we came in 4-6 with 21 kids on the team. Now it’s like we get a lot of kids coming back this year with the young kids coming back and wanting to grow up and play some football this year with us. It’s like we’ve got it coming together finally this year.”

Tishomingo opens up their season on August 28th against Keys.
