FLORESVILLE — Goliad completed an unbeaten run through the Floresville Jaguar Classic on Saturday, Aug. 22, winning three matches to capture the tournament championship and improve to 16-3 overall.

The Tigerettes defeated San Antonio Alamo Heights 25-16, 25-19, outlasted Sharyland Pioneer 25-15, 17-25, 25-22 and rallied past host Floresville 20-25, 25-20, 25-21 in the title match.

Goliad went 3-0 on the final day and finished the tournament undefeated.

Tigerettes open with sweep of Alamo Heights

Addison Yendrey and Isabel Sanchez led the attack with seven kills apiece against Alamo Heights. Sophi Wallek added six.

Sanchez recorded 14 assists, two blocks and eight digs. Yendrey had three blocks and eight digs.

Sierra Arriazola led the defense with 11 digs and served two aces.

Goliad survives Sharyland Pioneer

Yendrey powered the Tigerettes past Sharyland Pioneer with 17 kills as Goliad recovered after dropping the second set.

Ella Ulbricht added nine kills, while Kinlee Weiser and Wallek had three apiece.

Sanchez directed the offense with 33 assists and also recorded five blocks and two aces. Yendrey added three blocks.

Arriazola finished with a team-high 15 digs. Ulbricht added 11 and Yendrey had eight.

Tigerettes rally for championship

Goliad dropped the opening set against Floresville before responding with wins in the next two to secure the tournament title.

Yendrey again led the Tigerettes, finishing with 19 kills. Weiser added six, Wallek had five and Ulbricht contributed four.

Sanchez recorded 33 assists, three blocks, two aces and eight digs.

Arriazola led Goliad with 14 digs. Buenger added seven, Yendrey had six and Maely Brandes recorded five.

The championship capped a three-day stretch in which the Tigerettes won all nine of their matches.

Goliad will travel to Industrial on Tuesday for its next match.
