REFUGIO — Refugio County commissioners are scheduled to consider a countywide burn ban, courthouse rehabilitation work and several grant-funded law enforcement items when they meet Tuesday, Aug. 25.

The Commissioners Court will meet at 9 a.m. at the Refugio County Courthouse, 808 Commerce Street. The agenda also includes infrastructure projects, personnel changes and financial matters.

Burn ban, courthouse project on agenda

Commissioners are scheduled to discuss and possibly take action on the Refugio County Courthouse Rehabilitation Project and a Refugio County burn ban.

The court will also consider seeking bids for the Refugio County-Refugio Lift Stations Improvements Project through a Community Development Block Grant Mitigation contract.

Another item calls for commissioners to consider awarding a small contract for the Precinct 4 Tractor Barn Project funded through FEMA.

Commissioners are also scheduled to consider renewing an AARC Group LLC stormwater permit for the KRFG Rooke Field Refugio County Airport.

SB22 grants, sheriff’s radios

Two agenda items involve Senate Bill 22 funding.

Commissioners could authorize County Attorney Simon McCloud III to apply for an SB22 grant for the county attorney’s office for fiscal year 2026-27 and authorize the county judge to apply for an SB22 grant on behalf of the sheriff’s office.

The court will separately consider purchasing two APX 8500 multiband in-car radios for $20,193.03 using SB22 funding.

The financial agenda includes a $24,514 SB22 budget amendment for the sheriff’s department, a $6,000 Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education amendment for the sheriff’s department and a $10,100 amendment for the fire department.

Commissioners will also consider recognizing $19,034.15 in Texas Comptroller revenue associated with the CDBG-MIT MOD F137 project.

Sheriff’s personnel changes

Several sheriff’s office personnel changes are listed as information items.

Those include communication officer staffing changes and movement among traffic control, patrol corporal and deputy sheriff positions.

The court will also consider hiring a temporary employee for the county clerk’s office using the employee contingency fund.

Other business includes a presentation from Dallas Winterrowd of Globe Life Family Heritage regarding employee benefits and consideration of an engagement letter with Armstrong, Vaughan & Associates, P.C. for the county’s 2026 year-end financial audit.

The agenda also provides for public participation and a closed meeting if commissioners determine one is necessary and legally authorized under the Texas Open Meetings Act.
