ORANGE GROVE — Skidmore-Tynan suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling to Orange Grove 25-16, 25-14, 25-19 in a non-district volleyball match.

The Lady Cats dropped to 6-1 after opening the season with six consecutive victories.

Elle Carriger and Samantha Sugarek led Skidmore-Tynan with six kills apiece. Carriger hit .263 and recorded two solo blocks, while Sugarek added six assists and six digs.

Audree Vasquez finished with four kills, 10 assists, five digs, one ace and one solo block. Solana Quintero contributed two kills, 14 digs and a block.

Alyssa Resio anchored the Lady Cats’ defense with a team-high 20 digs. Natalie Ramirez had five digs, and Tinsley Zemanek added a kill and a dig. Whitney Thoms finished with two kills and a block.

Skidmore-Tynan recorded seven kills with only one attacking error in the opening set, hitting .240, but Orange Grove pulled away for a nine-point victory.

The Lady Cats struggled offensively in the second set, finishing with four kills and five errors. They produced a match-high 10 kills in the third set but committed eight attacking errors as Orange Grove completed the sweep.

Skidmore-Tynan finished with 21 kills, 17 assists, 51 digs, five blocks and one ace. The Lady Cats hit .085 for the match.

The Lady Cats will return to action Aug. 20-22 at the Brownsville Veterans Tournament.
