Main Street Brenham Announces 23rd Annual Scarecrow Extravaganza

BRENHAM - Main Street Brenham is inviting residents, schools, and local organizations to participate in the 23rd Annual Downtown Scarecrow Extravaganza this fall.

Participants are encouraged to decorate downtown with whimsical and fun scarecrows ranging from simple designs to elaborate creations. Contestants will compete for a total of $1,400 in cash prizes distributed across nine distinct categories.

Prizes include $300 for Best Overall sponsored by Kelli Dozier State Farm Insurance, $200 for Most Votes sponsored by BT Longhorn and $150 for Best Fall Theme sponsored by Hermann Furniture. Additional awards of $125 each will be presented for Most Creative sponsored by Rustic Ruby, Most Educational sponsored by Christy Schlottmann Farmers Insurance Agent, Silliest sponsored by Bluebonnet Abstract and Title and Cutest sponsored by the Brenham Banner-Press.

Online registration opens Monday and closes Sept. 11. Scarecrow installation begins Sept. 14 and must be completed by Sept. 28. In-person voting runs from Sept. 30 through Oct. 22 using maps and ballot boxes located at sponsoring businesses in downtown Brenham.

Event organizers will announce the winners on Oct. 26, with photos of the winning entries taken from Oct. 27-29.
