ROCKPORT — Aransas County Navigation District Commissioner Long Nguyen confirmed on Monday, Aug. 24 his intent to resign his position with the district, adding he will not be running for re-election.

No specific date was given for when Nguyen would officially step down, as district commissioners must formally accept his resignation at their next regular meeting on Sept. 8.

When reached by cell phone, Nguyen did not offer any comment beyond confirming he was resigning and not running again. Nguyen has served on the commission since 2023, and his term was scheduled to expire in 2026, according to the district website.

Nguyen’s resignation comes amid ongoing legal developments involving members of his family. Joshua Nguyen, who briefly served as executive director of the ACND and was a maritime teacher at Rockport-Fulton High School, was recently indicted on four felony counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student. He was arrested in December of 2025 and on Aug. 20. Another son, Brandon Lee Nguyen, was arrested on Aug. 20 for possession with intent to promote child pornography. Both have been released from the Aransas County jail.

Also, all three of Long Nguyen’s sons – Joshua, Brandon and Brennan — were named in a lawsuit alleging sexual improprieties and sexual abuse with a former student. Rockport-Fulton ISD, Rockport-Fulton High School Principal Jodi Carter and local non-profit Texas Coastal Academy are also named in the lawsuit.

As of Aug. 24, it was not known if Long Nguyen’s name would still appear on the November ballot for the Precinct 4-4A position, as the filing deadline was Aug. 17. It was announced last week that Nguyen would face off against Josh Wilson in the November election. Commissioners must also decide how they want to proceed to fill Nguyen’s vacant position for the rest of his term.

Nguyen’s resignation and announcement comes less than a week after long-time ACND commissioner Tommy Moore announced he was not running for another term.
