BROWNSVILLE – Skidmore-Tynan went 1-2 Friday, Aug. 21, on the second day of the Brownsville Porter tournament, defeating Brownsville IDEA River View before falling to Brownsville Rivera Early College and San Benito.

The Lady Cats opened the day with a 25-10, 25-11 sweep of River View.

Whitney Thoms led Skidmore-Tynan with eight kills on 11 attempts and a .636 hitting percentage. Elle Carriger added seven kills and hit .500, while Solana Quintero finished with four kills. Audree Vasquez and Samantha Sugarek each added three.

Vasquez recorded 17 assists, while Sugarek had four. Carriger served five aces and Natalie Ramirez added two. Alyssa Resio led the defense with 12 digs, while Ramirez finished with 10. The Lady Cats hit .392 as a team with 26 kills and only six errors.

Rivera EC slows Skidmore-Tynan

The Lady Cats (9-4) dropped their second match to Rivera Early College, 25-19, 25-8.

Vasquez led Skidmore-Tynan with five kills, while Sugarek added four. Carriger and Thoms each finished with two.

Sugarek recorded six assists, nine digs and the Lady Cats’ only ace. Resio also had nine digs, and Quintero and Vasquez added five apiece.

Skidmore-Tynan was held to 13 kills and a .078 hitting percentage.

San Benito takes straight-set win

San Benito closed the day with a 25-20, 25-23 victory over Skidmore-Tynan.

Vasquez and Sugarek led the Lady Cats with five kills each. Vasquez added six assists and nine digs, while Sugarek finished with five assists, seven digs and one ace.

Resio recorded a team-high 16 digs. Ramirez and Vasquez each added nine, and Quintero had eight.

Skidmore-Tynan finished with 18 kills, 14 assists and 54 digs in the loss.
