BRENHAM — Law enforcement officers across Washington County will soon have upgraded technology in their patrol units following a vote by the Washington County Commissioners Court on Tuesday.

Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of 37 Brother PocketJet 8 mobile printers and related equipment accessories from CDW Government. The total purchase amount of $37,523.92 will be fully funded through the Justice of the Peace Technology Fund.

Justice of the Peace Harold Riddle presented the item to the court, explaining that the high-tech printers are designated for law enforcement vehicles across the region.

“This gets us 37 printers, which should cover all of the Sheriff’s Department and constable vehicles,” Judge Riddle told the commissioners.

The technology upgrade comes at no direct hit to the county's general operating fund, as it leverages restricted funds dedicated specifically to judicial and court technological enhancements.

County officials expressed gratitude to the Justices of the Peace for allocating their dedicated technology funds toward the equipment, noting that the mobile units provide mutual operational benefits for both the judicial system and officers on duty.

With the approval finalized, the new in-vehicle printing hardware will assist patrol deputies and constables with field-issued citations, paperwork, and mobile documentation directly from their cruisers.
