BRENHAM – The Blinn College football team suffered a 48-14 loss to Southwest Junior College Football Conference rival and fourth-ranked Tyler Junior College on Saturday at Cub Stadium.

The setback dropped the Buccaneers to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

“We got outplayed tonight,” Blinn coach Ryan Mahon said. “You have to play a full game to beat a team like Tyler. We were only good sporadically, and that’s not good enough.”

Tyler, the defending SWJCFC champion and a 2025 national tournament qualifier, took control with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns before extending its lead to 27-0 at halftime.

After the intermission, Mahon made a change at quarterback, turning to freshman David Richardson for the remainder of the contest.

Richardson accounted for both Blinn touchdowns with an 11-yard quarterback keeper in the third quarter and a six-yard scamper in the fourth quarter that capped the scoring.

“This one hurts now, but the only way it becomes a total loss is if we don’t correct the mistakes we made,” Mahon said. “We’ll watch the film, home in on what we need to improve, and put in the work to get better.”

Blinn takes a break from conference play when it hosts Community Christian College at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Cub Stadium.
