Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders proclaimed Texarkana "Capital for the Day" on Wednesday.
Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders addresses a crowd during a stop in Texarkana Wednesday.
The program gives state leaders a chance to connect with citizens in their communities to talk directly about what is working and the challenges and barriers they face and how to address and support them, said Sanders.
She talked about education and the success of the LEARNS Act and raising teacher salaries.
"We have tried to do 'Capital for a Day' all over the state, but to be able to come back to my hometown, a place that's meant so much to me and to my family, I think, is just a real great opportunity. There's a lot of amazing things that are happening here," said Sanders "These are people that love Arkansas, they want to see a lot of growth happen in South Arkansas, in particular, and so do I. For me, it is personal to see this area of our state thrive and grow and getting to be here be part of the community for the day, allows us to do that no matter what."
The governor's agenda for the day also included visits to GoodLuxe Coffee and the Texarkana Welcome Center, a meet and greet at Zapata’s, tour and roundtable at Goins Plastic Source and a meeting with local law enforcement alongside Col. Mike Hagar.
