Tennessee man indicted for murder after clerk's death during robbery

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. - A Crockett County man has been indicted for the murder of a Bells, Tennessee store clerk during a robbery committed on Sunday, the District Attorney's Office said Tuesday.

Corey William Douglas Houge was indicted by a Crockett County Grand Jury on Monday for the murder of Shahed Rana Mohsin, a clerk at the Safari Corner Market in Bells.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said agents joined detectives with the Crockett County Sheriff's Office to investigate Mohsin's death, where they determined that the suspect in the shooting was linked to a similar crime in Jackson from a week prior.

Just after 1:30 Sunday afternoon, TBI said, investigators with the Jackson Police Department, as well as FBI agents and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, found Houge in the area of Lawrence Switch Road near Highway 70 in Jackson; he was wanted by Jackson PD for a robbery and homicide that occurred at Ridgecrest Cellars on August 20.

Houge has been indicted for first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree murder in perpetration of a felony, especially aggravated robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and four counts of employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony with a prior felony conviction.

"This violent case is not a reflection on Crockett County, which is one of the safest counties in Tennessee. With the dangerous magnitude of a case such as this one and after an internal review of the investigative evidence, it complies with our Office policy to present it directly to the citizens on our Grand Jury when appropriate," said District Attorney Frederick Agee. "The Grand Jury has returned an 8-Count indictment for Houge, and we will do everything within our power to hold him accountable for taking the life of a valued member of our community. We appreciate the dedicated effort of our law enforcement partners who have diligently worked around the clock on this investigation.”

Agee's Office said Houge has been ordered to be held without bond until his arraignment Wednesday.
