RAVALLI COUNTY, Mont. - Evacuation warnings have been issued for residents on the east end of Skalkaho Highway due to the Nature Grove Fire, according to a social media post from the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office (RCSO).
The warnings were issued to residents east of the 1800 block on both sides of Skalkaho Highway. The highway remains open to traffic, but Forest Service Road 75 is closed.
RCSO said an evacuation warning means "this is the time for final preparation, precautionary movement of persons with special needs, mobile property, and perhaps even pets and livestock." The sheriff's office advised people to enroll in Hyper-Reach online to receive mobile alerts regarding evacuations.
"The Ravalli County Sheriff's Office will make every attempt to advise the public as conditions change," RCSO said.
According to the Bitterroot National Forest, the Nature Grove Fire was caused by lightning. It has grown to at least 100 acres.
The forest service said the fire is located around half a mile above Black Bear Campground and called the incident "rapidly emerging."
