SHELBY, Mont. – Toole County deputies arrested a man in connection to a woman who said she was shot in the head early on Thursday morning.

The Toole County Sheriff’s Office said it received a 911 call around 3:35 a.m. on Thursday from a woman in Shelby saying she had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and needed medical assistance.

Deputies and medical responders went to the residence and brought the woman to a local hospital for treatment, the sheriff’s office said.

The office said it took a man into custody in connection to the incident shortly after.

The sheriff’s office said there would be a heavy law enforcement presence near Mineral Street and Cascade Avenue, the area of the incident, while they investigate. They asked residents and motorists to use caution in the area and avoid it if possible.

The investigation is ongoing and the office said there is “no active threat to the public at this time.”
