HELENA, Wash. — Hot conditions at the Last Chance Stampede and Fair have prompted organizers to put extra safety measures in place for families at the fairgrounds.

Organizers partnered with local law enforcement and health services to stay at the fairgrounds in case of emergencies.

One organizer said the added support helped create another level of protection during the fair.

"They're aware that the fair is a big deal for the community and there's a lot of people. So obviously they're quick to respond to an event like this. So it should be a good and safe year like usual," Cory Popp said.

Popp also points people to places around the grounds where they can cool down. Those include the exhibit hall, shaded areas, grassy spots and food concessions where people can hydrate. 

If someone shows symptoms of heat stroke, organizers say people should call 911 right away and move out of the sun until help arrives.
