GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Great Falls has a mix of history and community events coming up, including a talk at The History Museum, a Holocaust exhibition and Oktoberfest activities later in September.

John Kunz: Journey to Freedom, A Polish Family's Journey from a Nazi Concentration Camp is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at The History Museum, 422 2nd St. S. in Great Falls.

The program will take place at the Ozark Club at 1:00 p.m. and centers on John Kunz, a community member who was born in a Nazi concentration camp.

Kunz and his parents survived imprisonment in Germany and came to the United States as refugees after the war. Kunz was 6 years old at the time.

The museum said support and sponsorship from a family through the Catholic Church in Fairfield helped the Kunz family settle in Great Falls. Kunz saved 40 educational panels about the Holocaust produced by the Simon Wiesenthal Center and brought to Montana by Bruce Barrett.

The exhibition, titled The Courage to Remember, is set to be on display in the Ozark Club from September 15-25. The museum also said it would be open on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Later that week, Oktoberfest events were also planned in Great Falls.

The first annual Firkin Crawl was scheduled for Thursday, September 24, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Celtic Cowboy, then 6:45 p.m. at Annie’s Tap House and 7:30 p.m. at Kellergeist, all with Bayern Brewing.

Oktoberfest is planned for Friday, September 25, 2026, in the 100 block of Central Avenue.

The celebration will include a variety of Oktoberfest beers and other drinks, plus games, food and live music.

Games listed for the event included the official Sam Adams Stein Hold, a keg roll and a Lederhosen and Dirndl contest.
