Flathead River near Bigfork closes to boats July 8-9 for bridge work
BIGFORK, Mont. — A section of the Flathead River near Sportsman's Bridge will be temporarily closed to all watercraft while crews install steel girders as part of the Montana Highway 82 bridge project northwest of Bigfork, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) announced.
BIGFORK, Mont. — A section of the Flathead River near Sportsman's Bridge will be temporarily closed to all watercraft while crews install steel girders as part of the Montana Highway 82 bridge project northwest of Bigfork, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) announced.
The closure, set to begin at 7 a.m. on July 8 and continue through 6 p.m. on July 9, covers about 20 feet upstream and 500 feet downstream of Sportsman’s Bridge on Montana Highway 82 northwest of Bigfork.
The restriction applies to all watercraft, including motorized boats, kayaks, canoes, rafts and paddleboards.
Officials said the closure is needed while crews install steel girders for the Sportsman’s Bridge project.
The Sportsman’s Bridge Fishing Access Site will stay open during the closure for boaters heading southbound toward Flathead Lake, FWP added.
