Deer Creek Fire burning 963 acres west of Marion

UPDATE: August 24, 2026 at 8:58 a.m. 

The Deer Creek Fire burning 18 miles west of Marion has grown to 963 acres, according to an update from the Montana DRNC. Containment is at 0%.

The fire line was completed from the anchor point along the Pleasant Valley Fisher River on the fire's northern flank on Sunday, the DRNC said. Firefighters will continue building the fire line on Monday. 

There are no evacuations or closures in place, but the public is still asked to avoid the Pleasant Valley Area. 

MARION, Mont. - The Deer Creek Fire is burning 724 acres around 18 miles west of Marion. The fire sparked on August 20, according to Northern Rockies Team 9 Type 3 Incident Management Team. 

Incident command said aircraft dropped retardant along the southern perimeter of the fire yesterday to keep it from spreading into nearby drainage. 

"Crews will continue to construct lines from the anchor point along the flanks towards the head of the fire," incident command said. "Firefighters are placing hose lays along fire lines to aid suppression efforts. More heavy equipment is arriving today to clear roads to provide safe access to the fire area and construct control lines."

The public is asked to avoid the Pleasant Valley Area, but there are no evacuations or closures at this time.
