Court documents identified the man arrested after a stabbing in Great Falls on Wednesday as Leslie Goss. Goss has several prior felony convictions including multiple convictions of aggravated assault. 

According to court documents, an officer on patrol in Great Falls observed a group of people engaged in a fight in the area of 7th Street and Central Avenue just after midnight on Wednesday. The group fled, and the officer followed one man down an alley where he saw an apparent stab wound in the  man's chest. 

Another man near the scene told police that he was a "shot-caller" for the Bloods, and was with the man who was stabbed when two unfamiliar men arrived and advised them of an alleged debt and desire to fight. 

Police also said in court documents that Goss admitted to engaging in the fight, that multiple witnesses reported seeing him stab the victim, and video footage depicts "arm motion consistent with the stabbing." 

Goss was arrested for a charge of assault with a weapon. 

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Police said an investigation into a stabbing downtown led officers to a home where a person of interest surrendered after a standoff Wednesday.

The Great Falls Police Department reports an officer found the stabbing victim in the downtown area during the early morning hours.

Police said the victim had been in a short struggle, was stabbed and was taken to the hospital.

Investigators worked through the night and into the morning before identifying a potential suspect early that morning.

A high-risk unit was used to serve a search warrant due to the suspect's history and the danger they could pose. Officers tried to get the suspect to come out peacefully before the situation escalated.

GFPD tells us they tried to get in contact with the suspect in multiple ways before having to use methods that damaged the home before the suspect came out. 

Police took the suspect into custody and continued the investigation. Officers then cleared the residence before turning it over to detectives. 

Police said they were still working to determine exactly how many people were involved in the case. The condition of the victim was not released.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Officers responded around 12:20 a.m. June 24, 2026, after a report that someone may have been suffering from a stab wound near Central Avenue and 7th Street.

According to a Facebook post from Great Falls police, the victim was taken to the Benefis Health System Emergency Department for care. The post also said two people were in custody.

Officers, detectives and deputies with the Cascade County Sheriff/Coroner's Office blocked off the area while they investigated. The closure covered 7th Street from 1st Avenue South to 1st Avenue North alleys and Central Avenue from 6th Street to 8th Street.

Police said they could be at the scene for several hours. The department asked people traveling downtown to use an alternate route.
