A 31-year-old man with a Belgrade address and a pending immigration case was in the county jail as of Wednesday on suspicion of stealing thousands of dollars in property from vehicles and possessing images of children as young as six years old being raped.

The man, Alan Paez Martinez, is charged with sexual abuse of children and multiple counts of theft and criminal trespass to vehicles.

On June 21, a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the 600 block of Green Tree Drive in Belgrade to take a theft report. A complainant reported tools stolen from his truck bed such as a Milwaukee M18 Redlithium XC5.0 Battery, Dewalt DCD794 Cordless Drill, Makita XPH12 Cordless Drill, Makita XMT03 Multi-tool, Dewalt DCG416 Disc Grinder, and five Makita BL1830B Batteries. The truck was reportedly parked in front of a home.

“It should be noted that victim 1 stated that he or his father’s initials were on all the tools for identification,” reads the deputy’s affidavit.

The next day, the deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of N. River Rock Drive in Belgrade for another reported theft, according to the affidavit. In this case, it was also alleged that tools were stolen from a truck parked outside a residence.

“Victim 2 stated that sometime during the weekend he had multiple tools stolen,” reads the affidavit. “It should be noted that both victim 2 and victim 1's residences are in the same neighborhood.”

It’s alleged that the second complainant reported having video camera footage showing a male driving a white passenger car with a red driver's side door stopping in front of his residence. The “male got out and was seen taking tools out of his truck and then leaving,” according to the affidavit.

The deputy made an even longer list of missing property from the second complainant – items such as a toolbox, band saw, tubing cutter, pliers, pipe cutter, cordless drill, heat gun, tool batteries, tire inflator, angle grinder, and more.

The tools reported missing at both locations reportedly totaled $4,895.55 in value.

“On July 20, 2026, I looked up the stolen tools and located many of the tools matching the description sold at two local pawn shops, Great Northern Pawn (1012 N Seventh Ave, Bozeman) and Debos Pawn (103 E Main St, Ste 3, Belgrade),” reads the affidavit. “For both Debos Pawn and Great Northern Pawn, the individual who pawned the items to the businesses was identified as Alan Martinez, hereafter referred to as the defendant.”

On Aug. 30, Martinez was issued theft citations at the county jail, where he he’d been booked on a warrant for the child sexual abuse charge. State law 45-5-625(1)(e), “Sexual abuse of children,” provides a penalty of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for someone who "knowingly possesses any visual or print medium, including a medium by use of electronic communication or any computer-generated child pornography in which a child is engaged in sexual conduct, actual or simulated.”

A criminal complaint filed July 16 accuses Martinez of having multiple videos and photographs depicting children as young as six being sexually abused, including acts too graphic to describe here. This case was investigated by the Belgrade Police Department, according to the complaint.

Another theft investigation was initiated Aug. 14 when a sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to a theft report in the 2600 block of Blackwood Drive in Bozeman.

“I spoke with the reporting party, C.M., the owner of Western Skies Landscapes, hereafter referred to as the victim,” reads an affidavit by this second deputy. “The victim stated he located tools that were previously stolen from his construction site at the above address. The victim stated he located the tools at Mountain Man Trading Post, 19599 Frontage Road in Belgrade, Montana. I met the victim at Mountain Man Trading Post, where I observed five STIHL tools that the victim stated were his. The victim provided me with a receipt of the items purchased for Western Skies Landscapes.”

The items reportedly included a battery backpack, battery charger, BGA 200 Blower, chainsaw, and FSA 130 R Trimmer, all valued $3,090.95, according to the affidavit.

“I spoke with a worker at the Trading Post, who provided me with two pawn tickets for the above-mentioned items,” reads the second affidavit. “One ticket was on April 17, 2026, consisting of the chainsaw, battery backpack, blower, and battery charger. The other ticket was dated April 18, 2026, and consisted of the trimmer.”

It’s alleged that Martinez was listed on the tickets as the seller.

Martinez had worked at Western Skies Landscapes during April 2026 when the items were allegedly stolen and pawned, according to the second affidavit.

Last year, Martinez was convicted of driving without a license twice, speeding, and driving without insurance, according to justice court records. He had an address on Frontage Road in Belgrade at the time he was charged in the most recent cases.

He has preliminary hearings at 8 a.m. Sept. 18 and 25 at the Gallatin County Law and Justice Center, according to public records.
