Bike park being built at Mayfair Meadows

Construction has begun on a recreational track suitable for bicycles, skateboards, skates, scooters, and more at Mayfair Meadows Park.

“It’s exciting to see the work underway and the master plan beginning to come to life with this first step of construction of a bike pump track,” reads a statement from the Belgrade Regional Parks, Trails and Recreation District.

The amenity is primarily a bike pump track to consist of continuous loops of rollers and berms designed to be ridden without pedaling. Momentum is generated using the rider's body movements.

“Construction of the pump track is expected to wrap up in a few weeks,” reads a statement from the city.

The city and district plan to eventually include bleachers or other seating so onlookers can watch people use the track, in addition to a pavilion, according to previous statements from Jordan Green, the city’s director of Parks, Trails and Recreation.

The bike pump track is perhaps the most substantial component of the master plan for Mayfair Meadows Park, which was created about a year ago between the city and the Belgrade Community Coalition, Green told city councilmembers at their Jan. 20 meeting. Future phases of the master plan implementation will include bike jump lines, parking, restrooms, and landscaping as funding becomes available.

“This is the first phase in a master plan to transform this space into a gem for our community,” reads the city’s statement.

The track will be equipped to host national and international bike competitions, according to Belgrade Community Coalition (BCC), which has spearheaded the project.

Emily Decker, BCC board member, told councilmembers in January that BCC wants to make sure that the park is available to as many people as possible, whether it’s toddlers on strider bikes, Olympic hopefuls, or “everything in between.”

“And it is adaptive-optimized for people with disabilities,” Decker said. “So really, it's for everybody.”

In January, councilmembers approved a contract with American Ramp Company for construction of the track. The contract specifies a not-to-exceed price of $299,999.

“After 5 years of fundraising and planning, the dream is finally becoming a reality!” reads a Sept. 15 statement from BCC. “Builders are hard at work creating Belgrade's first Bike Park, transforming a long-vacant lot into recreational space that will bring healthy outdoor activity for generations to come!”
