Heavy police presence near S Wilson Ave and W Hayes St in Bozeman

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office reported that the suspect has been taken into custody. Law enforcements will be clearing the area shortly. 

No injuries were reported.

Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer reported in a press release that on Thursday, July 9, at 4:30 p.m., deputies arrived at a Bozeman residence to serve temporary order protection. 

On arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with a male resident barricaded inside the residence. During the attempts, the male presented a sword-like weapon, pepper-sprayed a deputy and made statements about harming people, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators said several law enforcement interactions and issued temporary order of protection had been reported over the past few weeks involving this individual. The suspect was reportedly threatening towards his roommate and neighbors. 

The Gallatin Valley SWAT was dispatched to the residence this afternoon. Law enforcement will remain on scene until the situation is fully secured and there are no further threats to the community, according to the sheriff's office. 

Sheriff Springer thanked the community for their patience as law enforcement continues the attempts to de-escalate and bring the incident to safe closure. 

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Bozeman Police Department (BPD) announced on Thursday night that a significant law enforcement presence is currently in the area of South Wilson Avenue and West Hayes Street.

BPD personnel at the scene told NonStop Local that the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office is leading an investigation in the area, however no further details have been shared.

Members of the public are urged to avoid the area.
