BOZEMAN, Mont. — Bozeman is preparing for a free community fireworks show at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds on July Fourth as the city marks America’s 250th birthday.

The show is set to start at 10 p.m. at the fairgrounds. City rules passed a few years ago allowing fireworks within city limits only with a permit.

Local businesses partnered with the Bozeman Fire Department to sponsor the event, including the Armory Hotel, Murdochs and Kenyon Noble. Organizers said the show will be free for anyone who wants to attend.

The event’s sponsor said the goal is to create a gathering space for the whole community.

"It's a really wonderful moment for the community to get together and we hope that we've provided an opportunity with an event that's just for everyone to get together. We are so fortunate to live in this nation, to live in this state, to live in this wonderful community," Cory Lawrence said.

Other Montana cities that have banned personal fireworks include Missoula, Great Falls, Helena, Billings and Kalispell. In Butte, strict rules limit when fireworks could be bought and used.
