Bozeman heat response opens Homeward Point early Sunday

Homeward Point usually opens at 5 p.m. on Sundays. Shelter services will stay open through the day to give people experiencing homelessness a safe air-conditioned place during the hottest hours.
Heather Grenier, HRDC president and CEO, said the extra hours were meant to lower health risks tied to the heat.
"Extreme heat can be just as dangerous as extreme cold for people without stable housing. By opening our doors during the hottest part of the day, we're simply reducing the risk of heat-related illness for so many community members," said Heather Grenier.
HRDC said it may activate more Code Red responses when forecast temperatures reach 100 degrees or higher, depending on staffing and funding availability.
The organization also asked the Bozeman community for help with Sunday’s response. It requested cases of bottled water for guests at Homeward Point and financial donations to cover added staffing, utilities, supplies and operating costs.
Water donations could be dropped off at Market Place Entrance No. 3, 206 E. Griffin Drive.
