BUTTE, Mont. – Nine miles south of Butte at Thomson Park, two black bear cubs were spotted. Residents are urged to stay bear aware.

Montana reached the season when bears enter a period of intense, all day feeding to pack on fat before winter hibernation.

Vigilance and safety is essential in both black and grizzly bear country.

To stay safe in a bear encounter, always travel with others in nature, carry bear spray and make noise to keep animals aware. If an encounter occurs, stand confidently and back away.
