Belgrade, Mont. — New retail construction in Belgrade is picking up along Jackrabbit Lane as city leaders said the area’s growth is helping meet resident needs.

A new Rosauer’s supermarket opened to shoppers on June 24. City officials said more businesses were also under construction nearby, adding to the city’s expanding infrastructure.

Katharine King, community and economic development director of Belgrade, said the amount of new retail space stands out in a city growing this quickly.

“I Think it’s a big deal in a community the size of Belgrade that’s growing as fast as it is. And to have 116,000 square feet of new retail space under construction right now is pretty amazing,” King said. She explained that infrastructure often follows growth as communities expand.

“What typically happens in a community is the growth happens and then the infrastructure is needed, really to support it, follows, right?” said King, “We don’t build the infrastructure on hopes that growth will come."

City officials said a Chipotle Mexican Grill location, Chase Bank and Les Schwab Tires were also being built near the new Rosauer’s grocery store. Those projects remained under construction.
