A man accused of shooting two people at Vibes Night Club in Columbia in 2020 is scheduled in court at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Curtis Allen Lewis is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, and two counts of armed criminal action, according to court records.

Lewis allegedly shot a bouncer, who later died, as well as a 30-year-old woman, who survived but suffered a gunshot wound to the face, according to previous KOMU 8 reporting. 

Tershawn Kitchen, the security guard, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to court records.

Witnesses reported that Lewis got into a fight, and officers noted that his face was swollen, according to a probable cause statement. 

His appearance in court Monday is for a pre-trial conference, according to court records.

Lewis is scheduled to face a four-day jury trial starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 29, according to court documents. 

He wrote to Judge Joshua Devine on Aug. 20 to request a speedier trial, according to court records.

"I have now been dealing with this prosecution for more than six years since the incident," Lewis wrote. 

He cited communication issues with his public defender, as well as problems with evidence and the prosecution, according to his letter.

Prosecutors filed a motion to revoke Lewis' bond on Aug. 17, according to court documents.

Lewis' lawyer argued that Lewis had not violated bond conditions and claimed the prosecution's allegations are hearsay, according to court records.
