Endorsements

The League of Conservation Voters Action Fund has endorsed Democrat Abdul El-Sayed for the U.S. Senate.

VoteVets announced its endorsement of Callie Barr, Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 1st Congressional District.

Ben Ambrose, Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District, has been endorsed by United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 951.

Joanna Whaley, Democratic candidate for Michigan’s 2nd House District, has been endorsed by state Rep. Donovan McKinney (D-Detroit), state Rep. Carrie Rheingans (D-Ann Arbor), Michigan AFL-CIO, the Michigan League of Conservation Voters and American Peoples Compact.

A coalition of nine city leaders announced their endorsement of Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) in the race for Michigan’s 12th Senate District, including Grosse Pointe Mayor Sheila Tomkowiak, Grosse Pointe Woods Mayor Arthur Bryant, Harper Woods Mayor Valerie Kindle, St. Clair Shores Mayor Kip Walby, Clinton Township Supervisor Paul Gieleghem, Mount Clemens Mayor Laura Kropp, Chesterfield Township Supervisor Brad Kersten, New Baltimore Mayor Tom Semaan and Algonac Mayor Rocky Gillis.

Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers announced his formal endorsement of Jason Tunney, the Republican nominee for Michigan’s 35th State Senate District.

The Michigan AFL-CIO endorsed Democrat Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate, as well as congressional candidates U.S. Rep. Hillary Scholten (CD-03), William Lawrence (CD-07), Christina Hines (CD-10), state Sen. Jeremy Moss (CD-11) and U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (CD-12). Endorsed Michigan Senate candidates include Justin Onwenu (SD-01), Abbas Alawieh (SD-02), John Conyers III (SD-03), Theresa Brooks (SD-09), state Rep. Natalie Price (SD-10), Anthony Pennock (SD-18), Abbie Groff-Blaszak (SD-29) and Stan Opal (SD-33). Endorsed Michigan House candidates include Joanna Whaley (HD-02), Regina Ross (HD-04), Candace Calloway (HD-05), Melanie Macey (HD-06), Kimberly Fisher (HD-11), Kelly Garrett (HD-18), Nick Rowe (HD-42), Tom Turner (HD-57), Matt Schlinker (HD-68), Khristian Silvis (HD-84), Joseph McClusky (HD-86) and AnnMarie Horseman (HD-95).

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce announced its latest round of endorsements for the November general election, backing Judge Casandra Morse-Bills for the Michigan Supreme Court along with 12 additional candidates for the Michigan House and Senate, including Laura Perry (HD 31), Roman Gaskey (HD 54), Sylvia Grot (HD 59), Brandon Strong (HD 78), Joe Moss (HD 89), Briar Bearss (HD 97), Jaxon Deur (HD 101), Larry Johnson (HD 108), Chris Moraitis (SD 20), John Wetzel (SD 31), state Rep. Gina Johnsen (SD 33) and state Rep. David Prestin (SD 38).

The Michigan Education Association recommended, in collaboration with the National Education Association, Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate, William Lawrence for the 7th Congressional District and Christina Hines for the 10th Congressional District.

NFIB, the state’s leading small business association, has endorsed a slate of candidates for the Michigan Legislature. Included are House candidates Casey Noce (HD 22), state Rep. James DeSana (HD 29), Laura Perry (HD 31), Roman Gaskey (HD 54), Sylvia Grot (HD 59), Robert Wojtowicz (HD 61),  Drew Jake Robbins (HD 84), Joe Moss (HD 89), Lynn Afendoulis (HD 90), Briar Bearss (HD 97), Jaxon Deur (HD 101) and Larry Johnson (HD 108). State Senate candidates include Marcie Grzywacz (SD 4), John Goldwater (SD 12), Ryan Berman (SD 13), Chris Moraitis (SD 20), Mike Murphy (SD 22), state Rep. Donni Steele (SD 23), state Rep. Doug Wosniak (SD 24), Andrew Beeler (SD 25), state Rep. Matt Bierlein (SD 26), John Wetzel (SD 31), Kim Cole (SD 32), state Rep. Gina Johnsen (SD 33), Jason Tunney (SD 35) and state Rep. Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers on Thursday announced a “Democrats for Rogers” coalition in Detroit, including state Rep. Karen Whitsett (D-Detroit), Chelsea Rebeck of West Bloomfield and Rabbi Asher Lopatin, the leader of the Kehillat Etz Chayim congregation in Huntington Woods.

Secretary of State and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Jocelyn Benson launched a “Black Voters for Benson” coalition during a rally Tuesday with community and faith leaders in Detroit, including Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Detroit Federation of Teachers President Lakia Wilson-Lumpkins and Reverend Horace Sheffield.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee announced 15 additional target races in the Michigan Legislature including Michigan House candidates Lisa McIntyre (HD-22), Sherry Berecz (HD-28), Shannon Dare Wayne (HD-31), Jan Maino (HD-46), Sarah Pounds (HD-54), Alex Hawkins (HD-55), Katrina Manetta (HD-58), Matt Schlinker (HD-68), Angela Witwer (HD-76), Joseph McClusky (HD-86) and Anna Rink (HD-109). Michigan Senate candidates include Dr. Theresa Brooks (SD-9), Sean Carlson (SD-13), Carol Glanville (SD-30) and Rebecca Amidon (SD-32).

According to reporting from WLNS 6, Shane Dedrick, the Green Party candidate for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, “was nominated in about half an hour, on a Zoom call, with his camera off—and party officials say they have not been able to reach him in the four months since.” Additionally, Dedrick has donated to GOP candidates in the past and has no active campaign committee, social media presence, or campaign website.
