MINDEN, La. -- With the upcoming election, the Webster Parish School Board hopes that schools can benefit.
The School Board is asking voters to approve a 1 cent sales tax increase to support employees and fund school operations.
Superintendent Johnny Rowland says the tax will provide more money for extracurricular leaders, bus drivers and food service workers. All employees would receive a $1000 annual stipend as well.
“It's twofold. And that would be to address something that is much needed and that is to improve the salaries for not just our teachers, but all of our employees and especially our support employees. And then to address a need for, like I said earlier, increased revenues from maintenance and operation of the district, and those are the two driving forces,” Rowland said.
