PLAIN DEALING, La. — A female was found alive and a man was found dead in Plain Dealing following a domestic incident Sunday morning. Both were airmen at Barksdale Air Force Base.
According to Shreveport police, the incident originated as a domestic situation inside a vehicle in northern Bossier Parish. Authorities received reports that the male suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that the female victim may have also been shot.
The victim was unable to give her precise location to dispatchers, but officers confirmed her identity and military status through Barksdale AFB. Police checked an address tied to her in the Island Park neighborhood of Shreveport, but did not find her there.
Investigators used Flock license plate recognition cameras to track the vehicle. That search even took them to Hosston in Caddo Parish where they didn't find anything. Investigators did not locate the vehicle there and later returned to Plain Dealing, where they found the surviving victim and the dead man on Lake Road near Lake Plain Dealing.
“Information received from license plate reading cameras was helpful in locating the vehicle in this situation,” Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office Capt. Neil Johnston said.
Police confirmed none of the incident took place within Shreveport city limits. The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police are leading the investigation.
