Two men killed after shooter fires into crashed vehicle

Police responded to reports of a shooting in the 6500 block of Mansfield Road around 12:09 a.m. Officers found a vehicle that had crashed into a building.
Inside the vehicle, officers found two men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Ochsner Health, where they were pronounced dead.
The Caddo Parish Coroner identified the victims as LaJames Smith, 31, and David Young, 26. Their deaths mark the 31st and 32nd homicides in Caddo Parish this year.
Investigators say video reviewed by the department’s Real Time Crime Center showed the victims’ vehicle traveling at high speed before crashing into the building.
About 40 seconds after the crash, a suspect vehicle arrived. Police say an unidentified person got out, approached the crashed vehicle and fired multiple rounds into it before leaving.
Detectives with the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit are working to identify the shooter and determine whether anyone else was involved.
