Stonewall man arrested in gas station shooting that left 1 injured

MANSFIELD, La. -- A Stonewall man is behind bars and another man is recovering in a Shreveport hospital following a shooting Sunday afternoon at a Stonewall convenience store. DeSoto Parish sheriff's Deputy Mark Pierce said Tyler Douglas, 20, of Stonewall, is identified as the alleged shooter. He was taken into custody without incident shortly after the shooting happened. Douglas was booked into the DeSoto Parish Detention Center on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. Bond has not been set. The victim, Derobieyae Atkins, 24, of Keithville, suffered a single gunshot wound to the stomach. He was taken to Ochsner LSU Health, where he is in stable condition, Pierce said. The shooting happened in the early afternoon at the Shell convenience store and gas station on U.S. Highway 171 in Stonewall. An argument between the men outside the business escalated into a fight inside, and that's where Atkins was shot, Pierce said. Additional charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
