SHREVEPORT, La. -- A 16-year-old has been arrested for shooting his sister, Shreveport police said Saturday in a news release.
The teen was booked in to the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center for illegal use of a weapon and possession of a handgun by a juvenile.
Officers learned about the shooting around noon Friday when a female went to a local hospital to seek treatment for a gunshot wound. Her injuries were non-life threatening.
The victim reportedly told officers her brother was the shooter. It happened in the 7700 block of Linwood Avenue.
Violent Crimes Unit investigators took over the investigation and located the 16-year-old at his his home. Because of his age, his mother was contacted to be with him during questioning. However, both declined to provide statements and asked for legal counsel.
Evidence was collected at the scene.
"This incident serves as an important reminder to parents and guardians to know where their children are, who they are spending time with, and what they are doing. This shooting could have easily resulted in a fatality. Fortunately, the victim survived, but the outcome could have been far different," Cpl. Chris Bordelon said in the release.
