SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport police are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a man seriously injured.

The collision happened around 10 p.m. May 27 in the area of Hearne Avenue and North Market Street, according to the Shreveport Police Department's Crash Investigations Unit.

Investigators said the victim's vehicle had run out of fuel near the intersection of Hearne Avenue and Hilary Huckaby Avenue. The man reportedly walked home to retrieve a bicycle and a gas can before heading back toward his disabled vehicle.

While riding the bicycle, the victim was hit by an unknown vehicle. Police said the driver left the scene without stopping to render aid or report the crash.

The victim suffered severe injuries to his right foot. Investigators said he was unable to provide the exact location where the collision occurred.

Detectives are also trying to identify people who helped the victim after the crash. According to investigators, hospital staff reported that a Black man and a Black woman traveling with children in a black Chevrolet Suburban took the victim to Willis-Knighton North.

Police believe those people may have information that could help determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
