SHREVEPORT, La. — Authorities are investigating a murder-suicide after two people died following a shooting late Thursday night in Shreveport.
 
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office identified the two Friday as Nathan Lindsey, 20, and Tamia Woodard, 23.
 
Officers responded around 11:25 p.m. Thursday to a home in the 2500 block of Malcolm Street after receiving reports of a shooting. When police arrived, they found Woodard suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Police said Lindsey was also found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and a firearm in his hand. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after 6 a.m. Friday.
 
Witnesses told investigators Lindsey and Woodard, who police believe were in a romantic relationship, were arguing in a back bedroom before two gunshots were heard.
 
“What we have determined at this point in time is this is domestic in nature,” Shreveport Police Cpl. Chris Bordelon said. “There were witnesses inside of the house that stated that the two individuals had been arguing in a back bedroom and then they heard two gunshots and that’s when police were called.”
 
Based on witness statements and evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe Lindsey fatally shot Woodard before turning the gun on himself. Police said the firearm was recovered and remains in their custody.
 
Bordelon said the case marks Shreveport’s 26th criminal homicide of the year. He said more than 60% of the city’s homicides in 2026 have been connected to domestic violence.
 
“So unfortunately, we’re seeing younger and younger individuals with firearms and younger and younger domestic violence cases,” Bordelon said. “And I really think that speaks to possibly individuals having poor conflict resolution skills.”
 
According to police, the department has responded to more than 1,600 domestic violence calls this year and made more than 200 arrests connected to those cases.
 
Autopsies for Woodard and Lindsey have been ordered, according to the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office.
 
The investigation remains ongoing.
