Delandro Fleming

BENTON, La. – A Shreveport man convicted earlier this man for gunning down and robbing an elderly man outside of his daughter’s Bossier Parish house was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday in Bossier District Court.

District Court Judge Mike Craig handed down the mandatory sentence for Delandro Fleming, 24, who was convicted in May of second-degree murder in the June 2024 death of Wilmer Monette, 76.

Fleming killed Monette outside of his daughter’s home in the Jamestowne neighborhood in north Bossier.

Fleming came in contact with Monette hours before the shooting at a Shreveport liquor store. Fleming went there to meet Monette to receive a reward for finding his lost keys. Monette had more cash in an envelope, so Fleming followed him to rob him, according to evidence presented at trial.

Surveillance videos and cell phone records track Fleming as he followed Monette for close to an hour before reaching the Jamestowne house. Fleming shot Monette while he was still outside of the home.

Monette’s daughter heard the gunshots and went outside and found her father on the ground and Fleming going through his pockets. 

At the time of his arrest, Fleming should have been in jail in another parish but was mistakenly released.

Destiny Shante Landers, 25, was driving the car as Fleming followed Monette. She, too, was charged in the crime. She pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery in October. And in May was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
