SHREVEPORT, La. — Law enforcement agencies in Shreveport and Bossier City are urging residents to prioritize safety and adhere to local ordinances during this year’s Independence Day celebrations. Both cities have established specific windows for the legal discharge of fireworks to protect residents, pets and property.

In Shreveport, fireworks are permitted beginning at noon Wednesday and ending at 10 p.m. Sunday. The Shreveport Police Department reminds citizens that it is unlawful to ignite or explode fireworks between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.

Bossier City residents may begin using fireworks earlier, starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the window closing at 10 p.m. Sunday. Similar to Shreveport, Bossier City prohibits fireworks use between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. within city limits.

To ensure a safe holiday, both departments issued several fire safety tips. Officials recommend keeping a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby, and they warn never to point or throw fireworks at people, animals, vehicles or buildings.

Additionally, parents should not allow young children to handle fireworks. Bossier City officials emphasized that children should never handle them without an adult present. Officials also recommend exercising extreme caution in dry conditions, as small sparks can quickly lead to dangerous fires, and cleaning up all debris and used fireworks after use.

The Shreveport Police Department noted that these regulations are designed to maintain the peace of local neighborhoods.
