SHREVEPORT, La. — Shreveport residents are seeing taller grass and piles of debris as rain continues to disrupt city maintenance schedules.
Public works officials said they have completed only a fraction of the planned lot mowing because of constant summer storms. However, a new wave of 18 to 20 contractors is set to hit the streets this coming Monday.
The rain has also contributed to a backlog of more than 1,000 bulk trash pickup requests across the city.
While the department has completed nearly 3,000 requests this year, equipment failures have slowed progress. Three of the city's six specialized pickup trucks are currently in the shop for repairs.
