NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Before beginning Tuesday's SWAT training, members of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office SWAT Team paused for a moment of prayer and silence in honor of the U.S. eeputy marshal who was killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a wanted fugitive in Alexandria on Monday afternoon.
"The deputy marshal was assigned to the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, a mission that routinely places law enforcement officers into some of the most dangerous and unpredictable situations imaginable. These deputies are tasked with locating and apprehending violent fugitives — individuals who often know they are wanted and have already made the decision that they will not surrender peacefully," the sheriff's office said.
Following the prayer, Natchitoches SWAT Operators completed a special Hero WOD (Workout of the Day) in tribute to the deputy marshal.
7 Rounds For Time:
- 13 Burpees
- 26 Mountain Climbers (each leg)
- 7 Push-Ups
- 13 Air Squats
- 26 Sit-Ups
- 726-Meter Run
"The workout served as a symbol of respect, sacrifice, and the unwavering commitment shared by law enforcement officers across this nation," the sheriff's office said. '"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends — John 15:13'"
Members of the Natchitoches SWAT Team, NPSO Criminal Investigations Bureau, High-Tech Crime Unit, and Drug Enforcement Unit reflected on the many occasions this deputy U.S. marshal worked alongside local law enforcement during fugitive apprehensions in Natchitoches Parish.
"His professionalism, courage, and dedication to protecting our communities will not be forgotten by those who had the privilege of serving with him," the sheriff's office said.
The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office asks Natchitoches Parish residents to continue remembering the United States Marshals Service, the deputy marshal's family, friends, fellow deputies, co-workers, and all members of the law enforcement community who are mourning "this tremendous loss. We also ask that you keep in your prayers the members of the Violent Offender Task Force and all first responders who continue to place themselves in harm's way each day to protect others."
"Today, we trained with purpose, prayed with heavy hearts, and remembered a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. May God bless his family, watch over all who wear the badge, and grant eternal rest to our fallen brother," the sheriff's office said.
