SHREVEPORT, La. - A 1-year-old child suffered life-threatening injuries and an 18-year-old mother was hurt after being struck by an SUV Tuesday night in Shreveport.
Officers responded to the crash around 9:15 p.m. in the 6400 block of Jefferson Paige Road.
Investigators said the mother was walking eastbound in the roadway while pushing her child in a stroller. The driver of a black 2020 GMC Yukon traveling eastbound struck both of them, knocking them from the road.
The Shreveport Fire Department took both victims to a local hospital. The child's injuries are life-threatening, while the mother is expected to recover.
The driver stayed at the scene and voluntarily submitted to chemical testing. Police said impairment is not suspected, but noted that poor lighting made the pedestrians difficult to see.
The Shreveport Police Department Crash Investigation Unit is investigating. No citations have been issued.
