Mansfield police officer arrested on battery, other charges

MANSFIELD, La. — A Mansfield police officer was arrested Friday morning by state police.

Louisiana State Police arrested Curtis Jones, 58, and booked him in to the DeSoto Parish Detention Center at 10:39 a.m. 

Jones is charged with simple battery, simple assault and malfeasance in office. He was released from custody Friday afternoon after posting bonds totaling $50,000.

Troop G spokesman Trooper Eddie Thomas said the investigation of Jones began earlier this year when LSP received reports of misconduct by a MPD officer.

Details of the misconduct were not disclosed, but KTBS has learned Jones is accused of using force on individuals who were under arrest. 

The LSP investigation results in an arrest warrant being issued by the 42nd Judicial District Court for Jones' arrest. He surrendered to LSP at the detention center.

The City of Mansfield has placed Jones on administrative leave, according to a social media post by the city. 

"The department is fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities to ensure an impartial and thorough review occurs. Due to an ongoing legal process, we cannot discuss details at this time. We want to ensure the community that the integrity, trust and well being of the community we serve remains a priority," the city said in its post. 

The LSP investigation is ongoing.
