Freeman was taken to Ochsner LSU Health for treatment of what was determined to be non-life threatening injuries.
While securing the scene, officers saw multiple guns inside the house. One had been reported as stolen.
Detectives interviewed Freeman at the hospital, who reportedly said the shooting was accidental. He said it happened while he and others were handling and making adjustments to a firearm. The description he provided matched the stolen gun, police said.
A search warrant was obtained for the house, resulting in the seizure of additional evidence. Witnesses were interviewed, too, providing information consistent with the evidence collected and determination the shooting was accidental.
Freeman was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a stolen firearm.
