Homer police arrest Bossier City woman for attempted murder in hit-and-run

HOMER, La. — A Bossier City woman has been arrested after allegedly using her vehicle to intentionally plow into a crowd and strike a woman in the parking lot of a local business, Homer Police Chief Van McDaniel confirmed.

McDaniel said Shanderick Daniels, 27, of the 900 block of Westgate Lane in Bossier City is charged with attempted second-degree murder. McDaniel added that additional charges could come as the investigation continues.

Homer police responded to the scene on Tuesday around 1 p.m. after receiving a call that a victim had been struck by a car in the parking lot of a local store in the 800 block of West Main Street.

Authorities said when police arrived Daniels had left the scene but later turned herself in to the Homer Police Department. 

"She turned herself in roughly three hours later after I convinced her to do so via a phone conversation," McDaniel said.

Witnesses at the scene had previously identified Daniels to police as the driver of the vehicle involved.  

The victim was transported to an area hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

According to McDaniel, the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute and text message exchanges between the victim and another individual.

Police said video surveillance captured the entire event, contradicting Daniels' initial story to police.

McDaniel said the video shows Daniels driving her car in a circle before accelerating toward a crowd of people, ultimately striking the lone victim.

According to police, the impact threw the victim over the hood of the car before she fell heavily onto the concrete. Authorities noted that the suspect's vehicle sustained a noticeable indentation to the windshield from the force of the impact.

Two other individuals were issued citations for disturbing the peace in connection to the incident.

The arrest has highlighted regional law enforcement resource strains, as Homer police spent hours attempting to find a facility capable of housing Daniels due to limited space in female facilities. Daniels is being held at the Claiborne Parish Detention Center until a other housing placement is located.
