Highway 1215 bridge in Sabine closed for emergency repair

The state Highway 1215 bridge -- located a little over a mile west of state Highway 191 in Sabine Parish -- will be closed through Aug. 20.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development said the bridge has structural deficiencies that make it unsafe for public travel and requires immediate repair before motorists can drive over it again. Motorists west of the bridge will have to detour on Carter's Ferry Road.
The same bridge was closed three years ago almost on the same date -- Aug. 4, 2023 -- and reopened later that month after repairs were completed.
DOTD's in-house maintenance crews will do the work. So far, the bridge is not on the replacement list, but that could change if funding is allocated by the state Legislature, DOTD spokeswoman Erin Buchanan said.
