Gunman opens fire on Shreveport street, bullets hit homes with children inside

SHREVEPORT, La. — A gunman opened fire in a Shreveport neighborhood Friday afternoon, spraying bullets into homes on Matthews Place and leaving residents shaken, according to police and witnesses.

The shooting happened around 1:15 p.m. on Matthews Street.

According to Shreveport police, the suspect was initially in a vehicle before getting out and continuing on foot while firing shots.

Neighbors described the gunfire as sounding like an automatic rifle. Numerous bullets or shell casings were visible on the ground after the shooting.

"It was scary. It's really scary," neighbor Rosie Whitaker said. "Who knows where the bullets are going to land? They're outside shooting and we're in the house."

At least two homes were struck by gunfire, authorities and witnesses said. One of the homes houses a family with children inside. Another residence suffered damage, including bullet holes in a screen door. Vehicle windows at one of the homes were also shattered by gunfire.

Despite the barrage of shots, no injuries were reported and no one was hit, police said.

As of Friday afternoon, there was no indication that an arrest had been made. Police continue to investigate and search for the shooter.

The incident remains under investigation.
