Greater Shreveport Chamber celebrates local minority business leaders and organizations

SHREVEPORT, La. — A group of regional entrepreneurs, corporate professionals and community changemakers was spotlighted during the annual Minority Business Opportunity Awards Dinner Thursday at Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino in Shreveport. 

It was hosted by the Business Development Connection of the Greater Shreveport Chamber, with Willis Knighton Health serving as the presenting sponsor.

Chamber leaders said the annual gathering serves to honor local trailblazers whose innovation, leadership, and public service elevate the economic and cultural environment of the Shreveport-Bossier metroplex. 

“The Minority Business Opportunity Awards are a powerful reminder of what makes our business community so special,” said Greater Shreveport Chamber Chairman Scott Ward of Southern Components. “Each year, we have the privilege of honoring individuals whose hard work, perseverance, and heart leave a lasting impact on our region. Our honorees are not only successful business leaders, but they are also mentors, innovators, and community builders who inspire others through the opportunities they create and the lives they touch throughout Northwest Louisiana.”

Top winners:

Top Business Professional of the Year – Tia White, JP Morgan Chase

White is a financial literacy advocate and entrepreneur focused on narrowing the wealth gap. In her position with JP Morgan Chase, she coordinates local educational programming to secure long-term financial health for families throughout the Shreveport-Bossier area.

Non-Profit Professional of the Year – Badreka Harper, The Arc Caddo-Bossier

Harper manages administrative operations, board coordination, and major events for an organization dedicated to expanding opportunities for individuals with disabilities. She transitioned to the nonprofit space in 2022 following a career in broadcast media, and now focuses on building operational systems that remove barriers to the organization's mission.

Emerging Business of the Year – Apotheworx Pharmacy, Heidi Cram

Dr. Cram, a pharmacist with more than a decade of management experience, operates a concierge-style, patient-centered pharmacy in downtown Shreveport. Established in 2024, the business functions as a healthcare provider and an economic anchor aimed at revitalizing the downtown district through community engagement.

Small Business Owner of the Year – Antonisha Parish, I’d Wax That Studios

Parish launched her esthetics business in 2018 with a specialized focus on professional hair removal. The studio has expanded by prioritizing rigorous hygiene standards, staff education, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for a diverse clientele.

Business of the Year – Whataburger

The restaurant brand earned top honors for its deep corporate citizenship and philanthropic footprint across Northwest Louisiana. Beyond food service, the company invests in regional programs targeting food insecurity, youth development, and education while establishing local community partnerships.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Wayne E. Smith, Shreveport police chief

Smith was celebrated for his 40-year legacy with the Shreveport Police Department. He joined the force in 1980 and ascended to the role of chief in 2022, earning accolades for integrity, mentorship, and his efforts to bridge relationships between law enforcement officers and local citizens.
