Dixie Inn considers hiring animal control officer amid surge in strays

DIXIE INN, La. — Warmer temperatures are causing a surge in the stray animal population in Dixie Inn, prompting local leaders to consider new enforcement measures.

The Board of Aldermen is currently weighing the cost of hiring a part-time animal control officer to address the increase. Officials stated that the rising number of untagged cats and dogs has become an expensive issue for the town.

Alderman Lance Milligan proposed the creation of the part-time position specifically to collect untagged animals. Under the proposal, the officer would coordinate data with local veterinarians to track the population more accurately.

The goal of the new position is to create a more efficient system for managing strays within the community. As of Thursday, the board has not made a final decision on whether to fund the position.
