Caddo Schools superintendent proposes across-the-board pay raise

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Caddo Schools Superintendent Keith Burton is proposing a 6% across-the-board pay raise for all employees.

It was included in the budget proposal presented by district staff during the board’s first budget work session Tuesday afternoon. If approved by the board at a meeting later this month, the raise would take effect July 1 and provide a salary increase for employees across all positions.

District leaders have worked for months to develop a pay raise proposal that is substantial and sustainable. Burton said the recommendation reflects careful planning by staff to ensure the district is investing in employees while maintaining long-term financial responsibility.

For the average Caddo Parish teacher currently earning $62,748.68, the proposed increase would amount to an additional $3,764.92 annually, bringing the average salary to $66,513.60.

“Louisiana has led the nation in academic growth for the past two years, and we know our teachers and staff are central to that work,” Burton said. “Every day, our employees showing up for children, strengthening classrooms, supporting families and helping move our district forward. This proposed raise is about recognizing that work in a meaningful way while continuing to invest in the people who make student success possible.”

Burton also expressed his gratitude to district staff for the extensive work required to bring the proposed pay raise forward.

“These recommendations did not happen overnight,” Burton said. “I am grateful to our Finance Division and our district leadership who have spent months reviewing numbers, evaluating options and working through the details to make this proposal a reality. Their work has helped bring forward a recommendation that supports employees while keeping the district on stable financial footing.”
