SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office is honoring two recently deceased K-9s with memorial headstones provided by the U.S. War Dog Memorial.

Clint Symons, president of the U.S. War Dog Memorial, and Vice President Kristi Symons traveled from Milford, Michigan, to Caddo Parish to personally install the headstones honoring the two K-9s.

During their visit, the Sheriff's Office received word that another retired K-9, Samos, had died.

The U.S. War Dog Memorial provides engraved headstones and memorials for military and law enforcement K-9s at no cost to their handlers or agencies. The organization is dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of working dogs.

The sheriff's office thanked the Symons and the organization for traveling to Caddo Parish to honor its K-9s.

"Your kindness and dedication mean more to our handlers and the entire Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office than words can adequately express, the sheriff's office said.

"Our K-9s dedicate their lives to protecting their handlers, our deputies, and the citizens of Caddo Parish," the sheriff's office said. "When their watch ends, they deserve to be remembered with the dignity and respect they earned through a lifetime of service."

The sheriff's office also honored Samos and other fallen K-9s, saying their service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.
