Arceneaux submits nominating petition ahead of qualifying

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Mayor Tom Arceneaux submitted a nominating petition Tuesday morning to the Caddo Parish Registrar of Voters to qualify for reelection this fall.
The petition contains more than 960 signatures from registered voters. The minimum requirement under state law is 750.
The signatures must be certified for the petition to be valid.

This is the third time Arceneaux has turned in his candidacy paperwork by petition when running for office. He also qualified by petition ahead of his successful bids for a seat on the Shreveport City Council in 1982, for which he served two terms, and for his first term as Shreveport mayor in 2022.
Why does he choose to do it this way?
"I have tried to have a mayoral administration that is transparent. And so I have made myself available to people all over the city. And this is just another way of doing that and going door to door. We've probably been to 2,500 households," Arceneaux told KTBS.
Typically, the qualifying process requires a candidate to pay a fee and fill out associated paperwork.
Qualifying for the mayor's race is Aug. 5-7. The election is Nov. 3.
