SHREVEPORT, La. — Independence Day festivities continued Sunday at the American Rose Center as families gathered for the Red, White & Blooms event, celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary while highlighting the rose as America's national floral emblem.
The event began at 4 p.m. and featured live music, local vendors, food, a car show and a fireworks display to cap off the evening.
Executive Director Beth Smiley said the event gave families an opportunity to enjoy the gardens while celebrating the holiday weekend.
"It's been great. There are a lot of families and people just hanging out. We love that everyone is also discovering the garden a little bit and enjoying the music. You can't get a better reason to come out here," Smiley said.
Organizers said the Red, White & Blooms event combined history, education and family-friendly activities as the community extended its Independence Day celebrations through the weekend.
